    Climbing Or Creeping Rose

In fact, no rose grows like a creeper. Basically, the branches of this class of trees are very long and these branches have to grow with the help of something. And that is why such roses are called climbing roses. However, this type of rose is not found in Bangladesh because it is not suitable for our country.

Colors: – White, pink, red, and lemon.

    7. Roses are also used as herbal medicine as they contain a lot of vitamin C.

Rose cultivation in terms of Bangladesh

The first thing to look for in rose cultivation is climate and soil selection. Roses are mainly winter flowers but some classes of roses also flower on hot days. Again some roses do not do well at high temperatures.

Specification of rose cultivation suitable for Bangladesh:

    Temperature:20 – 30 degrees Celsius.
    Relative humidity:85%
    Average annual rainfall:100-125
    SoilFertile loam
    Soil pH6.0-6.5
Sunlight time:The morning sun is more beneficial than the afternoon sun.
Suitable time for planting seedlingsOctober – February.
ReproductionSeed, cutting, cocoon pen, and eye pen.

Cultivable varieties of roses for Bangladesh – Mirandi, Papa Meland, Double Delight, Taj Mahal, Paradise, Blue – Moon, Montezuma, Tata Center, City of Belfast etc.

    Method of production of seedlings:

Roses are usually propagated by different pens. Such as: cutting, cocoon pen, eye pen etc. Roses are propagated through seeds but are only used in crop development activities. The most widely used and popular method is eye pen or budding. The eye of the variety of rose that will be bred is placed on another pair of roots.

To break the original pair a little easier, to create a new variety of rose, first cut any kind of stalk into pencil size 25-30 cm. Mr. They are kept at a distance and planted in rows in the nursery which is called adijor. Then after 6 months the cuttings are suitable for budding. T budding is usually done for roses.

    Tub rose cultivation method

Many of us have a desire to plant roses in tubs at home as a hobby. If you are a rose lover, you can take care of your rose tree by following the steps below. It goes without saying that it is not possible to get good quality flowers without taking care of roses.

Select the place to keep the tub

To grow roses in tubs, you must first select the right place to place the tubs. Choose a place to keep the tubs where you get morning sunlight and at least 7-8 hours of sunlight a day.

Determining the size of the tub

After selecting the place you need to determine the size of the tub. You can make a tub selection based on the variety of roses. You can use tubs of 20 cm or 6 inches for smaller varieties and 30 cm or 12 inches for larger varieties or larger.

    Seedling collection

After determining the place and size of the tub, you need to collect the seedlings of the specified variety and put them in the tub in time. You can choose a reliable nursery for collecting seedlings. You can also collect saplings from us. Check out our Flower Plants Collection. No matter where you collect the seedlings from, make sure that the soil at the base of the seedlings is accurate.

    Planting seedlings in tubs

After collecting the seedlings, they should be placed in the tub at the specified time. You can plant seedlings in tubs at any time of the year, but September – October and January – February are considered the best times. Some things should be kept in mind while planting the seedlings, for example, if the seedlings are in the tub, the seedling should be separated from the whole soil in the tub in such a way that no soil becomes loose from the seedlings. And if the roots of the collected seedlings are covered with wet soil, they should be dried a little. Before planting the seedlings in tubs, it is better to prune the seedlings if they have dead leaves and stalks.

    Water irrigation

Irrigation should be done at least 2-3 times after planting the seedlings. When irrigating, care should be taken so that water does not accumulate at the base of the seedlings. You know, dengue mosquitoes lay their eggs in frozen water. It is best to keep the seedlings in the sun for 3/4 hours in the first stage and it can be gradually increased to 6-7 hours. When the buds appear on the trees, more flowers can be obtained by soaking the whole tree with an irrigation pump like a fountain twice in the morning and evening.

    Fertilizer application

Then 1 month after planting of seedlings 15 days or 1 month after the application of fertilizer. The rules of fertilizer application are given in the form of points below

    Dung Manure and Hollow Soil

At the beginning of April, an 8-10 cm soil layer should be removed from the top of the tub and filled with dung manure and hollow soil.

Powdered Dung Manure and Steamed Bone Powder

After pruning the trees in winter, usually, 3 handfuls of powdered dung and 1 handful of a steamed bone meal are given in each tub.

    Foliar Spray/Leaf Fertilizer

The use of this fertilizer is increasing day by day to improve the quality of rose flower and increase its yield. Two types of foliar sprays / leaf fertilizers are used by mixing a few chemical fertilizers. One is used to improve the health and flowering of the tree and the other is used to supply trace elements.

    1. Urea, Di-Ammonium Sulphate, and Di-Potassium Phosphate are sprayed in 10 liters of water each.
    2. Magnesium sulfate 20 gm, manganese sulfate 15 gm, ferrous sulfate 10 gm borax 5 gm were mixed at the rate of 5 gm per liter of water and the mixture was sprayed at the rate of 2 gm.

Pesticides can be mixed with two fertilizers but one cannot be mixed with the other.

    Urea

To strengthen the weak plants, 2 g urea per liter of water should be mixed and sprayed on the leaves in the morning and afternoon.

    Apply Lime Water

For 1 liter of water, 1 teaspoon of powdered lime should be mixed with clean water and sifted and applied to the plant every 3 months. It should be watered without any other fertilizer within 15 days after application.

    Purning

After flowering, the trees should be pruned. The branches are usually pruned to 8-10 inches in October-November. Infection with a disease called dieback can be seen after pruning. So it is better to apply pesticides and fungicides before and after pruning.

    Insect Control

Care must be taken to avoid insects. Insects should be killed as soon as they are seen or necessary steps should be taken to eliminate them. Care should be taken to ensure that water never accumulates at the base of the tree. A chart of various insect controls has been given at the rose cultivation points on the land.

Caring for roses in the summer

Due to the high temperature in summer, too much sunlight can damage the rose plants. Therefore, keep your tubs in a place where the heat of the sun can do no harm. It would be better to place the tubs on a piece of brick or wood after laying straw or something like that in the place where the tubs are kept.

Never water a tree on a hot day or at noon. After 8-8 pm, when the temperature drops, water the tubs. This is the best time to water the trees in summer.

Caring for roses during the rainy season

No matter where you place the tubs on the roof or anywhere else during the rainy season, remove the straw, pieces of wood, pieces of bricks, etc. under the tub and prepare to protect the tree from the storm. In order to prevent water from accumulating at the base of the tree, if the tub is raised like a triangle with extra soil, water accumulation will not occur. However, it is better to remove excess soil from the tub at the end of the rainy season.

Topics to look for when exhibiting:

If you want to showcase your roses in different exhibitions, select improved varieties of rose plants and plant them in tubs. Because the exhibitions are held during the maximum rainy season.

The trees need to be taken care of separately at this time for the exhibition. Irrigation and fertilizer should be applied in a timely manner to keep the plants alive and healthy so that the flowers are large in size. Not just irrigation and fertilizer, the trees need to be taken care of from the beginning, at least 2 to 3 months before the start of the exhibition, the trees should be pruned and occasionally some branches and pruning should be done so that the trees are quite pruned. For large flowers, only 2 buds should be left on each branch and the rest should be cut off. Even if the buds come on the tree before the specified time, they have to be cut down.

Before the last display, the brightness of the flower should be increased, for which 50 g of iron sulfate should be mixed in 8 liters of water and applied to the flower. And the tubs should be kept in a shady place 7 days in advance. Otherwise, the petals of the flowers will be ruined in the sun.

Method of cultivating roses in the land

    Making land, holes and beds

Rose cultivation should be selected in high plains with plenty of sun and open air. The land has to be deeply plowed or plowed. Weeds, bricks, etc. are selected from the land and the soil has to be made very rough, soft and flat by repeated cultivation. In order to have a good quality garden, the beds have to be made in May-June just before the monsoon so that the beds and other elements of the bed are well decomposed and suitable for planting in October. Drainage system has to be maintained around the bed so that water does not accumulate.

For small gardens, the beds should be made at least 3 weeks before planting. If the weather is dry, after making the bed and soaking it with water, the manure and organic manure will rot and the bed will be suitable for planting.

After making the beds, seedlings need to be dug at different distances for different varieties, such as Dwarf Polyantha 0.5 m, Floribanda and China 0.75 m, Hybrid T1 m, Hybrid Perpetual, Mana and Damascus and T 1.50 m. Noyset-2.0 m and creeper rose 2.50 m.

Different species of trees have to be planted in rows, which facilitates fertilizer application, water irrigation and other maintenance work. For planting, round holes 1 m deep and 0.75 m in diameter have to be made. When digging the hole, keep the top 20-22 cm of soil loose and fill the hole by mixing one-third of the amount of soil with the rest of the soil, half a kg of powdered dung, half a kg of powdered khail, 18 kg of TSP well. Then organic manure like compost, green manure etc. should be mixed with the separated soil and put in the hole and see that the hole space is higher than the adjacent land.

If it is necessary to plant the tree within a day or two of making the bed, then the tree should be planted with more compost or rotten dung manure. After planting, khail and chemical fertilizers should be used. If you use more cow dung fertilizer, it will work even if you don’t give urea fertilizer. In this case khail should be soaked for 4/5 days and mixed with water and lightly mixed with soil around the roots for 3/4 days.

    Sapling planting:

Usually rose seedlings are kept in polythene bags so the bag has to be torn off while planting the seedlings. Then the tree should be inserted into the hole in such a way that the base of the seedling is as much under the ground as before, even after planting in the hole. After planting the seedlings in the hole, some rotten dung and VT sand or loamy soil should be mixed well and sprinkled around the roots. Then water the soil at the base of the tree by pressing it well. After planting the seedlings first need to provide shade to protect the tree from the sun. When the tree gets stuck, the soil has to be watered. Frequent watering is required for sandy soils and clay soils or heavy soils for 2/3 days. However, care must be taken not to cause waterlogging.

If the roots of the rose have hard soil, the soil should be soaked with water before planting so that the roots can grow properly.

Seedlings that do not have soil at the base of the seedlings should be soaked in water for 2/3 hours before planting.

In order to replace the old trees, the young ones first need to be pruned well with a sharp knife or scissors. Then dig up a lot of space around the roots and lift the tree in such a way that it cuts a very small number of roots. The tree should be planted in the same manner and given plenty of water and shade for at least 2/3 days. In the dry season, it is better not to replace old trees on hot days.

    Fertilizer application:

Fertilizer is given from time to time as per the requirement of the plant. However, during the pruning in October, fertilizer has to be applied once again at the end of winter and again in March. Good results are obtained by applying fertilizer 10-12 days after pruning without applying fertilizer during pruning.

Before pruning, apply 2/3 kg dry dung manure, 50 g TSP and 50 g potash. Remove the soil 10 cm above the bed and loosen the soil below and mix the fertilizers carefully with the soil so that no damage is done to the roots. Poultry or pigeon droppings are good fertilizer for roses.

If fertilizer is mixed with water, it has to be applied in wet soil. Chemical fertilizers are absorbed by the plant very quickly. Applying liquid fertilizer to dry soil can cause damage to the plant due to excessive hardening. So liquid fertilizer should be given when the soil is wet. After giving liquid fertilizer, water is given for irrigation. It is often seen that despite adequate fertilizer in the soil, the leaves of the tree are not getting fresh or the tree is not growing properly after pruning. In this case, good results are obtained by applying fertilizer through the leaves.

    Organ transplantation

The old branches of the rose tree do not want to flower for long. Every year new twigs emerge from the roots of the tree or from the old twigs. These new branches have to be allowed to grow properly by pruning the limbs of the tree. October is the best time to cut the limbs before the flowering season. Pruning is needed to increase the size of the flower, to help the new branch to spread well, and to remove cut and diseased stalks. The limbs have to be cut with a sharp scissors or a special kind of knife. Care should be taken while cutting the stalks so that they do not get crushed. This can lead to fungal diseases in the plant.

There are three main types of pruning: light pruning, medium pruning, and hard pruning. Cutting one-third of the long stalks or cutting dead and diseased stalks is called light pruning, pruning 30-35 cm above the ground is called medium pruning, and pruning keeping the height of the stalks above 14-20 cm above the ground is called hard pruning. What kind of pruning will be done depends on the variety of surroundings, trees, and soil. Trees can die if the sand is constantly pruned hard on the main soil. However, if the soil is good and large flowers are to be planted for display, then strict pruning is applicable. In other cases, medium pruning is to be done. Medium pruned flowers are not very large, but more flowers are available. After pruning, pruning paint should be applied on the cut part, otherwise, insect attack and then fungus attack may occur with the cut part. However, it is better to apply dung on the cut place of native roses. Formulation of pruning paint: Pyrifos or Pyriban 1 part,

    Insect-spider control of rose trees

The chart below shows how to identify and eliminate the insects that attack the rose bushes.

    InsectsMarkingRemedy
TermitesIf the roots of the cutting are damaged. If the possibility of termite infestation is realized in advance, the soil should be cleaned using pyrethrum or any other termite killer before planting.
Red little spiderThis insect sucks the sap from the lower back of the leaf and eats the tree.
Pin-bearing spots on the upper back of the pot and fine nets on the affected leaves and twigs can be detected.
When the infestation is high, the green color becomes lighter and the leaves curl. Many times the tree dies.
Red spiders have to be suppressed if they are few in number, or they get out of control later. Pesticides like Kelthane-42, Theovit-60, Ethion-47.5 EC are mixed with a certain amount of water and sprayed on the back of the leaves. They can be controlled only by spraying cold water vigorously.
Shaffer BeetleThis insect is large and reddish in color. It eats the leaves of the tree at night, eats the flower petals and pollen, and causes special damage to the growth of the seedlings. This insect attacks more in the rainy season. These insects lay eggs on the ground and damage the roots of sports roses.Insects are killed by cleaning the soil with pyros, Syrian or suitable pesticides. Insects can also be controlled by selectively killing insects by hand at night.
CaterpillarsThey damage the leaves of the tree.Insects are easy to catch and kill if they are small and large in size. But if the size is small and the number is more, Ripcord 10 EC per liter of water has to be sprayed with 1.1 ml or any touch of poison. If it is not suppressed at once, it should be sprayed again on the surrounding trees and grass after 2/3 days.
Digger waspAfter pruning, they often dig tunnels with the cut part of the stalks and build their nests inside. With these wounds, the tree is attacked by the fungus and later the symptoms of dieback disease appear. After pruning the stalks, this insect can be prevented by applying pruning paint on the thorny part.
Scale insectsThe bark of the old branches of the tree is often attacked by brown scale insects. They have hard scales or scales on them. The game of this insect sits permanently and sucks the juice and dulls the tree. This insect is controlled by spraying pesticides during sports and after pruning towards Chaitra. When the number of trees is less, the insects are removed by dipping the brush in methylated spirit and rubbing the affected stalks. Infected stalks are pruned and burnt but the spread of this insect is reduced.
ThripsThrips attack in hot and dry weather from March to April. They attack in droves and in a short time suck the flower buds and immature dagger sap and cause special damage to the plant. As a result, the fur does not burst or explode in a wrinkled state. The young dagger leaves curl. Examination of infected tips and flowers reveals mature and immature thrips. The affected tips and flowers are cut off and burnt and the pesticide Mipsin 75WP is mixed in 2.0 gm per liter of water and sprayed once a week, 2/3 times a week and twice a week.
Jab insectsJab insects damage leaves, young tips and flower sap by sucking in January-February.To control this insect, 2 ml of malathion per liter of water should be mixed and sprayed every 7-10 days.

    Disease:

Apart from insects, there are some other diseases in rose-trees which are mainly due to fungi and lack of food. Below is a chart of all these diseases and remedies.

    DiseaseMarkingRemedy
DiebackThe branches of the diseased tree turn black and die from the head.
These symptoms gradually reach the roots through the stems and the whole plant dies.
When the dieback starts, the diseased one has to be cut to the very bottom, and pruned paint has to be applied on the cutter head, the affected part has to be cut and burnt and the infected tree has to be cut with another spirit.
Powdery MildewTowards the end of winter the leaves look like white powder. These are fungal microorganisms. When the disease is severe, the young leaves and tips of the infected tree are completely covered by these microorganisms. The buds do not bloom, they are ruined.Diseased tips and leaves should be removed and burnt and sprayed with Heconazole 5 EC or Dithene M-45 or Endophil M-45.

    Flower collection and management:

    • If you want to use it immediately after cutting the flowers, it would be better to collect half-blooming roses. And if you want to use it after a while, it would be better to collect the ones that are in the flower bud stage.
    • The flower stalk should be cut with a few leaves with a sharp knife to collect the flowers.
    • The best time to cut flowers is in the morning or late afternoon.
    • You can put it in a vase after collecting flowers. If you put 3% sugar and 600 PPM 8 HQC solution in the vase water, it is possible to keep the flowers fresh for a long time.
    • Different types of flowers are packaged for marketing purposes. However, in many cases, flower packs are sold in the local market in addition to packaging. The use of newsprint for packaging can also be noticed in many places.

    Yield:

The yield of roses depends on the weather and the variety. In a suitable environment, each of the long-stemmed varieties has 30-50 flowers. When the yield of the tree decreases during the summer, the stalks should be pruned for the growth of the tree.
