About Allamanda Flower

The Allamanda flower is a highly toxic flower from Central and South America. Also a well-known species in Australia. The word “allamanda” is named after the Swiss botanist Dr. Frederich Allamanda. However, there are many regional names of this flower. Such as Yellow Bell, Gold Trumpet, or Buttercup Flower.

Allamanda likes to grow in full sun near fresh water with plenty of consistent rainfall. Very sensitive to frost, allamanda does not like shade and cannot grow in salty or alkaline soils.

A tree that blooms consistently like the Allamanda plant is perfectly able to reach heights above 6½ feet. The leafy orange-like fruits are shown and made with a spear. Yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers are about two inches [2-3 cm] in diameter. Although yellow is the most common color of Allamanda, there are other colors such as white, purple, pink, or orange.

Safty from Allamandin

Some people think that allamanda flowers have a fruity aroma. Allamanda is used in all tropical areas as ornamental plants in people’s homes. In the city of Canovanas, on the island of Puerto Rico, Allamanda has become the official flower of the city.

Children and animals should not be allowed near the allamanda plant because all parts of the plant contain Allamandin. When injected, Allamandin can be fatal. Moisture inside Allamanda will cause the appearance of bumps. Sometimes blisters can be touched internally.

Poor and dull as the toxicity of the Allamanda plant is produced, some species of Allamanda are known for their medicinal properties. Allamanda-like milk is currently considered an antibacterial and cancer treatment.
